Le Nintendo Switch Online est un service géré par Nintendo permettant de jouer en ligne sur Nintendo Switch. Payant, il succède au Nintendo Network.

Caractéristiques

Code Ami

Chaque utilisateur se voit attribué un code composé du préfixe "SW" et de 3 séries de quatre chiffres. Il existe plusieurs manières de rajouter des joueurs à sa liste d'amis : soit en recherchant des joueurs rencontrés aléatoirement durant des parties précédentes, soit via saisie de Code Ami, ou via suggestion depuis d'autres réseaux (jeux mobiles, Facebook, Twitter, Nintendo Network via 3DS ou Wii U).

Achat de jeux

Le service d'achat en ligne utilisé sur Nintendo Switch est le Nintendo eShop. Il contient divers logiciels que l'on peut télécharger directement sur sa console, gratuits ou payants.

Copie de sauvegarde

Quand cette fonctionnalité est activée, certains jeux transmettent régulièrement une copie de leur sauvegarde vers les serveurs de Nintendo, pour prévenir un effacement accidentel ou panne de console.

Nintendo Classics

L'abonnement au Nintendo Switch Online permet aussi d'accéder à un certain nombre de « Nintendo Classics », des jeux originellement sortis sur les consoles NES, Super Nintendo, Game Boy et Game Boy Color. Le tier supérieur de l'abonnement, Nintendo Switch Online + Pack additionnel, permet d'accéder également à des jeux Nintendo 64, Mega Drive, Game Boy Advance ainsi que, exclusivement via la Nintendo Switch 2, des jeux Nintendo GameCube. Parmi les titres disponibles, on retrouve les jeux Pokémon suivants :

• Pokémon Snap pour Nintendo 64, depuis le 24 juin 2022 ;
• Pokémon Puzzle League pour Nintendo 64, depuis le 15 juillet 2022 ;

On peut noter l'absence totale des jeux de la série principale, ainsi que Pokémon Pinball pour la Game Boy, Pokémon Puzzle Challenge et Pokémon Trading Card Game 2: THE INVASION OF TEAM GR! pour la Game Boy Color, Hey You, Pikachu! et Pokémon Stadium (Japon) pour la Nintendo 64, Pokémon Pinball: Rubis & Saphir pour la Game Boy Advance, Pokémon Channel et Pokémon Box : Rubis et Saphir pour la Nintendo GameCube mais aussi tous les jeux sortis sur des plateformes non supportées par le service.
